Iba Gani Adams, the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland

According to the public statements and proclamation made by the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, these were the principal reasons he selected Iba Gani Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland in 2017:

(1)‎ Promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition – The Alaafin said Gani Adams had consistently promoted Yoruba culture, customs, and festivals, particularly through the Olokun Festival and other cultural activities.

(2) Commitment to the Yoruba nation – He stated that Adams had demonstrated a clear vision for the progress, unity, and cultural revival of the Yoruba people, both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
‎ ‎(3.) Patriotism and courage – The monarch described him as courageous, patriotic, and possessing the qualities expected of an Aare Ona Kakanfo, a title historically associated with bravery and leadership.

(4)‎ Protection of Yoruba territorial and cultural integrity – Oba Adeyemi later explained that Adams had shown unwavering commitment to defending the cultural and territorial interests of Yorubaland.
‎ ‎(5.) Selfless service rather than wealth or politics – The Alaafin emphasized that the selection was not based on political influence, wealth, or business success, but on service and sacrifice for the Yoruba cause.

‎(6) Outstanding antecedents – He said Adams' record in promoting Yoruba heritage and identity was "unquestionable," making him a worthy successor to the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. ‎
‎(7) Youthfulness and energy – The Alaafin praised Adams as being energetic, resilient, and physically capable, saying he possessed "the vitality of youth" and the endurance expected of the holder of the title.
(8) Leadership of Yoruba organizations – His leadership of the Oodua People's Congress, the Olokun Festival Organization, and the Oodua Progressive Union was cited as evidence of his dedication to Yoruba interests. ‎
‎(9) Selection from a competitive field – The Alaafin revealed that 25 candidates were considered, and Adams was chosen because he had "paid dearly and earnestly for the interest of Yorubaland."
